IBM SkillsBuild

Led the replatforming of IBM's consolidated education platform from monolithic WordPress to a headless WordPress and Next.js stack, unifying offerings for educators, students, job seekers, and organizations under one roof.

SkillsBuild brought the P-TECH program online for the first time, extending a model Barack Obama championed in his 2013 State of the Union beyond its original network of physical schools to learners anywhere in the world.

IBM SkillsBuild

Background

P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) launched in Brooklyn in 2011 as a free six-year programme combining high school with an associate's degree in STEM, with IBM offering first-hire preference to graduates. By 2020 it had expanded to over 300 schools across 28 countries.

In May 2020, IBM took the model online with Open P-TECH, making the same curriculum freely available to any learner aged 14-20 worldwide. SkillsBuild is the evolution of that platform, broader in scope and serving students, educators, job seekers, and career changers across 168 countries.
